It’s a restaurant in somebody’s home. I’m open once a week. You book at wegottickets.com and pay in advance. This is because a home restaurant doesn’t have walk-in traffic.
What sort of food is it?
I cook on an Aga (one of only 3 restaurants in the UK that cooks solely on an Aga) which is a massive cast iron oven that is on all the time.
I don’t cook meat, I do cook fish and am vegetarian friendly.
My core cuisine is probably Italian and French but also Indian, Thai, Mexican.
If it’s appropriate to the meal, I do great cheese boards.
How many people come?
Normally I have about 30 covers but sometimes I do pop up dinners elsewhere with more people. You can also hire the summerhouse (a cosy shed) for up to five people. I do private dinners too if I feel like it.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. You are very welcome to come on your own. You will be sat at a mixed table and won’t feel at all like a saddo.
Who cooks it all?
I do. I sometimes have guest chefs who cook a course.
Booze… how does that work?
You will get a free cocktail at the beginning afterwards you can bring your own. No corkage charge. Sometimes I get a temporary alcohol license and will sell drink.
I’m scared, will I feel uncomfortable? Are you a mad axe murderer?
Don’t be scared. It’s never awkward. Are you a mad axe murderer?
What do you do the rest of the time?
I write and photograph. But each of these dinners take about four days on average. So I couldn’t do a full time job as well.
