Marmite chocolate: psychedelicious

September 28, 2010 8 Comments Filed Under: Uncategorized

Let’s be frank, the Marmite cereal bars were pretty awful. The only person that I’ve met who liked them was a Marmite hater. But, Marmite lovers, fear not! Their latest product ‘Marmite chocolate’ is a hit. I ate an entire bar in bed last night. It’s smooth with slightly granular salty yeasty bits. It’s counter-intuitive, a flavour mash-up, it’s a zodiac mind warp, your brain and tongue gets jarred in a yes/no conflict, it messes up your world view, nothing is as it was, everything has changed, it’s psychedelicious!

Loving the packaging….very peculiar! Am dreaming of Marmite chocolate mousse….

Available from October 4th at department stores including BHS, Debenhams and Robert Dyas for £3 a bar!

I'm so with you on the Marmite cereal bars – the cardboard packaging would actually have been tastier. Marmite chocolate though? Am already thinking of melting it into a venison stew…

Love it! Looking forward to trying marmite choc. It certainly works in salted butter caramel…

I had no idea this was coming! (Though to be fair this is also the first I've heard of the cereal bars. I like the rice cakes, though.) Anyway, I'm a bit a torn about this. I love Marmite. And I love chocolate and savoury things like salt and vinegar crisps. But this just doesn't sound right, somehow. But I think it's definitely worth a try!

Sounds yummy! Do they do a dark chocolate/vegan version?

Might have to do my own raw ones, but it sounds like they've granulated it, so it'd be difficult for me to get that effect. x

lorraine: I think the granulated effect is just from the marmite. It does that when I mix it with sugar too.But yes a raw vegan version would be great.

I was unable to buy a bar in Debenhams in Glasgow yesterday despite some major help from a shop assistant. It was my plan to road test it for the old blog. I've had to resort to buying a bar on ebay at an increased price but at least I've discovered your Marmite blog in the process. Hope they post it quick.
